Operation Genesis is our keystone annual event. Through generous donations from our supporters, we fund an all-expenses paid, 10-day trip to Ghana, Africa.
Students explore and learn about African culture through food tastings, museum outings, video conferencing sessions with Ghanaian students, dance performances and other culturally enriching activities.
Each student must go through an application and interview process in order to participate in the program. They are required to write an essay, submit a letter of recommendation, and complete an 8-week workshop prior to the trip.
Each student must also have a family advocate (parent, guardian, etc.). Family advocates are required to attend a minimum of 2 workshops and provide support to program staff by ensuring completion of key steps in obtaining necessary documentations to facilitate travel preparation, including vaccinations and passports.
Finally, students are asked to participate in two scheduled fundraising events.
All the requirements detailed above work in concert to teach our participants about planning, goal-setting, and other important character-building skills.
Youth Career Academy
Youth Career Academy (YCA) is a six-week exploration of the criminal justice system. Currently hosted as a summer program, YCA is designed to educate San Francisco’s youth about the inner-workings of the criminal justice system and provide them with a unique look at the many careers paths it affords. We aim to inspire our participants to pursue a career in the criminal justice field, and become a community leader who is sensitive to local culture.
Participants receive hands-on workshops about the functionality of the following departments in San Francisco: Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Juvenile Probation Department, District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, and the Judiciary Branch.
